Maine woman gives birth in driveway in frigid weather

GRAY, Maine — A Maine woman who went into labor as she was about to go to the hospital gave birth while standing in her driveway in frigid temperatures.

Abigail Cain delivered her own baby early Friday morning in Gray when the wind chill was minus 13.

She was leaving the house with her husband, Joseph Cain, to go the hospital when she went into labor.

Her father tells the Sun Journal that after the second contraction she felt she had to push. She had the car door open and was leaning on the seat when she gave birth.

Her husband, who was inside the house getting a bag to take to the hospital, came out to hear a baby crying.

The couple called an ambulance, which took the mother and baby to a hospital in Portland.

The 7-pound, 5-ounce healthy baby girl is named Danica AnneMarie Cain.
