NBC deal leaves Little in limbo

NASCAR is moving to NBC in 2015, which means Las Vegas resident Jamie Little is trying to find a new home.

Little, the pit reporter for ESPN/ABC, wants to continue to cover the sport she loves. Her contract, the second four-year deal she signed with the network, also expires following the 2014 season.

Little already is working with her new representatives, Creative Artists Agency, to plan out future steps.

“I know I have a job for a year-and-a-half. After that, I have no idea. I have to find work,” she said. “Surprised for sure.”

NASCAR agreed to a 10-year deal with NBC to complement the sport’s current deal with Fox. Fox is expected to televise Sprint Cup and Nationwide series races the first half of the season beginning in 2015, and NBC will take over coverage of the second part.

Now, Fox televises Sprint Cup races during the first half, and TNT and ESPN/ABC finish the season. ESPN/ABC covers Nationwide the entire season.

Little said she would be interested in moving to Fox or NBC in 2015, but said this also could present an opportunity to cover different types of events if she were to stay at ESPN/ABC. But there is no question where her heart lies.

“I’ve never been in a situation where all of the sudden I’m not covering something,” Little said. “I’m definitely a racing person. (Covering) stick-and-ball (sports) doesn’t interest me.”

This was supposed to be a fun weekend with a trip to Indianapolis for the Brickyard 400 on Sunday and the Indiana 250 Nationwide race on Saturday. ESPN will televise both.

“It’s a little bit of a blow,” Little said. “We’ve had the wind taken out of our sails. It’ll settle down in a few days.”

■ ON A ROLL — Henderson drag racer Justin Lamb won his 10th event of the season Sunday, and won in his fifth different category.

Lamb took home the Stock Eliminator title at the NHRA Mopar Mile High Nationals near Denver. He also has won in Top Dragster, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Stock.

At the Colorado race, Lamb came close to winning two titles. He made the finals in Super Stock, but lost to Dan Fletcher.

Up next is a trip to Sonoma, Calif., this weekend.

■ BACK ON TOP — Las Vegan Dylan Kwasniewski leads the NASCAR K&N Pro East Series East standings, putting him in position to add to the West title he captured last season.

Kwasniewski has won three of eight starts, with five top-five finishes.

He has won two of the past three races, and sat on the pole for his most recent start, July 13 in Columbus, Ohio, but finished third. His next race is Aug. 2 in Newton, Iowa.
