TMZ scoops the world press in Jackson death
June 27, 2009 - 11:40 am
Amazing.
Entertainment Web site TMZ, which has Hollywood wired these days, was way ahead of the “mainstream” media in reporting the death of pop icon Michael Jackson.
While other news sites were starting to report Jackson was being hospitalized, TMZ pulled the trigger and started the obituary process. It was a real-time thumping and a worldwide scoop.
Just how big was it?
It was so big that major newspapers across the country are tipping their hats with articles in their print editions. TMZ also beat television and the county coroner’s office.
TMZ's scoop illustrates what can happen when solid reporting is combined with superior technology.
