Girl’s mother tells of shock on hearing Stiles kissed child

The mother of a girl who was allegedly molested by Chester Stiles said Tuesday that she was shocked when her daughter, then 6, said the defendant kissed and touched her.

"I was pretty upset," said the mother.

She testified Tuesday during Stiles' trial. Stiles, 38, faces more than 20 counts of sexual assault and lewdness with a minor. If found guilty, he could spend the rest of his life behind bars.

The mother said her daughter, now 11, told her that Stiles kissed her and touched her genitals in December 2003. Stiles was visiting their Las Vegas home because his girlfriend was temporarily staying with them.

Her daughter also said she was hurt by the alleged molestation. According to the mother, her daughter said Stiles didn't stop, but told the child to "hold on."

"She says she remembers everything," the mother said.

The girl told her family the day after the alleged molestation took place.

A family friend, Annette Middleton, testified that she was at the home when the girl spoke out. Middleton said the girl had repeatedly announced earlier in the evening that she had a boyfriend. Later, the girl whispered to her mother that the boyfriend was Stiles and that he kissed and molested her, Middleton said.

"It was just shocking," she said.

About a month later, police interviewed Stiles, who denied the allegations. Police later issued a warrant for his arrest.

Stiles also is accused of videotaping himself in 2003 while having sex with a girl not yet 3. The girl who testified Tuesday did not appear on the videotape.
