Galena senior breaks state scoring record
Desert Pines' boys basketball team survived a record-breaking day by Galena senior Luke Babbitt to beat the visiting Grizzlies 77-67 on Saturday.
Babbitt scored 33 points, giving him 2,624 in his career and allowing him to break the state's career scoring record of 2,616 shared by Hug's Armon Johnson and Western's Prince Fowler. Babbitt broke the record with a free throw in the third quarter.
Cliff Harrell, Kimani Bullard and Reggie Shaw each had 15 points for the Jaguars.
• Foothill 73, Basic 48 -- At Foothill, the Falcons used a
30-8 burst in the third quarter to build a 63-33 lead and cruised to the win.
Ben Green led Foothill with 14 points. Tyler Dobbins paced the Wolves with 11 points.
• West Wendover 78, The Meadows 66 -- At The Meadows, Jared Lewis sank 10 3-pointers in a 49-point effort to lead the Wolverines.
Graham Hilt had 26 points and Jon Chino 23 for the Mustangs.
• Bishop Gorman 81, Sierra Vista 52 -- At Sierra Vista, Blake Moore had 18 points on six 3-pointers to lead the Gaels.
Kylel Coleman added 17 points for Gorman. Sierra Vista's Josh McLain scored 21 points, and Amir Garrett had 18 points and 10 rebounds.
• Lake Mead 85, Mountain View 55 -- At Mountain View, Landon Littlefield had 21 points for the Eagles, who took a 31-7 first-quarter lead.
Justyn Anderson scored 21 points for the Saints.
• Lund 51, Henderson International 46 -- At Henderson International, the Mustangs had three players score in double figures.
Tommy Vogel and Vinh Thai each scored 14 points for the Wolverines.
GIRLS
• Bishop Gorman 69, Sierra Vista 43 -- At Sierra Vista, Dannielle Diamant led five Gaels scorers in double figures with 21 points as Gorman rolled.
Arryn Ellenberg, Darriel Gaynor and Kiara Belen each added 11 points for the Gaels, and Ashley Gayle scored 10.
Jeanette Jackson led the Lions with 18 points.
• Mountain View 62, Lake Mead 34 -- At Mountain View, Randall Van Kempen had 26 points, five assists, five rebounds and five steals to lead the Saints.
Ellie Markwardt added 16 points and 10 rebounds for Mountain View. Jenna Willis had 17 points for the Eagles.
• Tonopah 56, Indian Springs 51 -- At Indian Springs, Kristi Glover scored 23 points to lead the Muckers. Markiesha Baker led Indian Springs with 26 points.
