September visitor number up 2 percent from last year

Visitor traffic to Las Vegas continued to gain momentum in September but at a slower pace than during the summer.
According to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, the number of visitors rose 2 percent compared with a year ago, the seventh consecutive monthly gain.

Las Vegas home sales dropped 26.5 percent in October from a year ago and inventory climbed 7.5 percent, an indication the housing market will end the year more sluggish than usual.

$1.7 million will help fight mortgage fraud in Nevada

The U.S. Department of Justice has given Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto’s office a $1.7 million grant to expand services addressing mortgage fraud and vacant-property crimes. Masto’s office will add four investigators and two prosecutors to a mortgage-fraud unit that already has three investigators and three prosecutors.

Facebook Deals has signed Harrah’s Entertainment Inc. and the Palms as initial participants in a new application that lets people find the best deals at local businesses. Tao and Lavo nightclubs in Las Vegas also will add users who check into a participating hotel to a future guest list. Facebook Deals also has piqued the interest of Station Casinos.
