Brilliant guitar duo the Assad Brothers seemed more than willing to share the spotlight with fellow Brazilian Romero Lubambo on Friday at Cabaret Jazz. It was a gracious gesture, but somewhat disappointing to audience members who came to see the featured twosome.
Sergio and Odair Assad have been called the best two-guitar team in history. The classically trained brothers have been playing professionally for 50 years but keep it fresh by continually improvising in their collaborations.
In first of 9 shows at the Hard Rock, classic rockers reward longtime fans with obscurities and allow ample beer runs for the less devout.
“It’s a real music school,” said Teddi Tarnoff, head of Las Vegas Valley School of Rock locations. “We’re teaching them songs, and they’re learning how to play in a band, but they’re getting as close to a real rock experience as humanly possible.”
