Here is a recap of every team that won a state title during the 2017 spring sports season and will be looking to defend this upcoming season.

4A STATE SOFTBALL: Grace Chavez, Taylor Askland team up to put Palo Verde in final

Grace Chavez lined a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth for the game’s only runs, and Taylor Askland fired a six-hitter to lead Palo Verde to a 2-0 win over Reed in the winners’ bracket final of the Class 4A state softball tournament at Bishop Gorman.

Coronado softball’s baserunning trickery resulted in the game’s only run, and the Cougars escaped with a 1-0 home victory over Rancho in the winners’ bracket final of the Sunrise Region tournament.

After Foothill plated nine runs over the first two innings, the Las Vegas softball team rallied and held on for a 17-16 home victory over the Falcons in Tuesday’s opening round of the Sunrise Region tournament.

Izabelle Morales tossed a five-hitter with three strikeouts, and Mikayla Berg went 3-for-3 with a triple, two runs and four RBIs to help Basic’s softball team rally from a five-run deficit to top host Eldorado 18-5 in six innings on Wednesday.

SOFTBALL: Yvette Sanchez, Rancho rally past Green Valley

Yvette Sanchez went 4-for-5 with a double and two RBIs, and Sam Pochop pitched six innings of relief and drove in two runs to help Rancho’s softball team rally for an 11-7 win at Green Valley on Monday.
