It appeared Anthony Bennett might be unstoppable. The bigger the game, the better the UNLV freshman forward typically plays, and he opened at his best. But then he disappeared, and eventually so did the Rebels’ hopes of winning a title Saturday afternoon.
I’m not so sure it’s this simple, but for all the weirdness of this college basketball season, it just might be: My esteemed colleague, fellow Review-Journal columnist Ron Kantowski, viewed Katin Reinhardt’s recent shooting slump in the most basic of terms.
The Rebels beat Colorado State 75-65 tonight in a Mountain West conference semifinal at the Thomas & Mack Center. UNLV will face No. 1 seed New Mexico for the championship at 3 p.m. Saturday.
UNLV suffered a loss in Mountain West basketball tournament quarterfinals to New Mexico for the second year in a row, losing 72-59 today. The Lady Rebels’ season ended at 12-19.
Perhaps the folks at Guinness have a record on it. Might be worth checking.
