Comeback kids of Coronado champs

One of the hallmarks of the Coronado boys volleyball team this season is its ability to come from behind.

Fishing Report, May 16

■ LAKE MEAD — Anglers have been using threadfin and gizzard shad in the Vegas Wash area as live bait. Low water has left vegetation exposed, which is making things difficult for those throwing cast nets. Several members of the Nevada Striper Club caught double-digit fish during their weekend tournament. One fish weighed in at 14.9 pounds. The Overton Arm is giving up catfish to anglers soaking shrimp; largemouth bass are hitting whole night crawlers. Bluegill are taking baits in the back of coves above Echo Bay. Fishing has been slow going at Hemenway and along the beaches.

Some destined to follow call of the wild

You know the years are going by when you look at your youngest son and realize for the first time that he can no longer be referred to as “The Wild Man.” Such is now the case with my youngest son, Hyrum, almost 17, whose outdoor adventures — and sometimes misadventures — have often become the subject matter for this column during his growing up years.
