Shadow Ridge senior running back Aubrey Nellems was bypassed by FBS programs concerned about his religious beliefs, but he signed a letter of intent to play at Southern Utah, where he will play linebacker.

NIAA finalizes football leagues for Class 5A in Southern Nevada

Bishop Gorman and Liberty will be playing football at least once a year. Under the new Class 5A realignment, the two leagues will do away with the traditional Sunset and Sunrise, east-west configuration, and instead align the schools based on a north-south orientation.

Liberty QB Kenyon Oblad commits to UNLV

Liberty senior quarterback Kenyon Oblad, the state’s all-time leader in passing yards, committed to UNLV on Sunday morning during his official visit with the program.

New 5A classification would end North-South rivalry in Nevada

The NIAA will meet Thursday to gather a recommendation to make to the board of control on Jan. 17. It is expected that the board will finalize the details of the new Class 5A for high school sports.

 
Bishop Gorman rolls to 9th straight state football title

Gorman entered Saturday’s title game outscoring in-state opponents 526-26 and just kept rolling. Quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson caught a touchdown, ran for one and threw for two as the Gaels dismantled Reed 48-7.

 
Nevada prep football teams forced to travel across the state

The logistics make it impossible for the best team to host the state title game in Nevada. It’s set up on a rotating basis in part to minimize travel. If the NIAA seeded its bracket, it would mean more teams traveling.
