Petroglyph Canyon packed with hints at region’s history

Some art is best viewed by plopping yourself down on desert gravel under a big blue sky and gazing upward. That was my approach at the Gallery in Petroglyph Canyon earlier this fall. After a moderately difficult hike, my reward was spotting hundreds of the gallery’s approximately 1,000 American Indian designs and images displayed on two rocky canvases stretching about one-tenth of a mile.

 
Nuns accused of embezzling funds, may have gambled in Las Vegas

Two nuns in Southern California have been accused of embezzling as much as $500,000 in tuition, fees and donations, the Long Beach Press-Telegram reported. The nuns may have spent some of the money at casinos in Las Vegas, according to parents and officials.

Day care and the ramifications for children

So the Review-Journal’s Victor Joecks advises parents to keep their children out of preschool if they want them not to go to prison (Wednesday column). When millions of American working families need two incomes, where does Mr. Joecks think these parents should put their kids when they’re working two jobs just to make ends meet?
