Somber Las Vegas ceremonies mark 9/11 Anniversary.
A tribute to those lost in the 9/11 terrorist attacks was held in front of Allegiant Stadium Friday morning. .
Nearly two dozen first responders attending a flag-raising ceremony to honor the fallen.
Other Las Vegas firefighters in the valley, performing a traditional ringing of the bell in front of Fire Station Five on Hinson Street.
The Sept. 11, 2001, attacks by the al-Qaida Islamic extremist group killed 2,977 people. .
Four commercial airplanes were hijacked, with two used to topple the World Trade Center towers in New York City. .
A third plane was crashed into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. The fourth hijacked plane, Flight 93, crashed in a field in western Pennsylvania.
“We can not only commemorate the lives of all those we lost in the attacks on 9/11, but also I think it is equally important we honor those heroes who are with us every single day,” , County Commissioner Michael Naft.
“We need to make sure people don’t forget what happened that day. If we can have an event here every 9/11 to memorialize that and keep it in people’s minds so we remember, we will do it.”, Raiders President Marc Badain

Masterminded by Saudi national Osama bin Laden,
four American airplanes were hijacked by
19 members of the terrorist group, al Qaeda. .
The terrorists flew two of the planes
into the Twin Towers of the
World Trade Center in New York City. .
Hours later,
a deeply shocked nation watched the
collapse of the Twin Towers live on national television. .
A third plane was flown into the
west side of the
Pentagon military headquarters. .
Passengers on the fourth plane,
United Flight 93, overtook the terrorists.
The plane crashed into a Shanksville, PA, field
rather than its unknown target. .
Nearly 3,000 people died in the attacks,
the most significant in American history. .
Nearly 10,000 people who were exposed
to the debris of the fallen towers have been
diagnosed with 9/11-related cancer. .
The economic toll of the attacks
has approached $1 trillion. .
In response to 9/11,
the Department of Homeland Security
was created. .
On the ten-year anniversary of the attack,
the World Trade Center memorial
“Reflecting Absence” was opened to the public

The U.S. Labor Department
released the unemployment
numbers on Thursday.
The number of jobless claims
was just below economists’
predictions of 1.55 million claims.
1.897 million Americans
applied for unemployment
insurance the previous week.
More than 44 million Americans
have filed jobless claims in
the past three months.
Continuing claims
nearly topped 21 million.
The numbers follow the May jobs report,
which revealed that more than two million jobs
were added to the U.S. economy in May.
Initial jobless claims continued the gradual downward trend. But it is still hard to square the claims figures with the much more upbeat news on the labor market from May’s Employment Report, Capital Economics, via Yahoo Finance

Paramount Pulls ‘Cops’
Series in Wake of Protests.
Paramount Network recently
confirmed their decision
to cancel the long-running
reality show, ‘Cops.’.
In a statement to ‘The Hollywood Reporter,’
a network spokesperson said they had no
“current or future plans” to continue with the show.
‘Cops’ is not on the Paramount
Network and we don’t have
any current or future plans
for it to return, Paramount Network, via
‘Hollywood Reporter’.
The show was slated to begin
airing its 33rd season on June 1.
However, Paramount pulled it from
the network’s schedule due to nationwide
protests over the killing of George Floyd.
Floyd, a 46-year-old black man,
was killed by a white police
officer in Minneapolis on May 25.
‘Cops’ began airing on Paramount
Network’s forerunner, Spike TV,
in 2013, following Fox’s decision
to drop the series.
It was the longest-running reality show
on TV, having premiered on Fox in 1989
