‘Popular’ books aren’t always right

Since back when I was a priest, and today as a professional counselor, people buy me little, popular wisdom books for Christmas. By “little” I mean small. Sometimes as small in dimension as a CD and not much thicker. By “popular” I mean the book is written by someone who has been a guest on “Oprah.”

My Haley, widow of ‘Roots’ author Alex Haley, to publish new book

My Haley, who lives in the Whitney area on the outskirts of Henderson, is known for collaborations with her late husband Alex Haley, who wrote the Pulitzer Prize-winning book “Roots: The Saga of an American Family,” which chronicled his ancestors through life in Africa, the Middle Passage, American slavery and emancipation.
My Haley is expected to release her most recent work, “The Treason of Mary Louvestre,” in February. Once again following black life during the Civil War era, the book is based on the true story of a slave.

MGM Grand cats find room to roar in Henderson at Lion Habitat Ranch

At the Henderson-based Lion Habitat Ranch, 382 E. Bruner Drive, people have a chance to see – or potentially hold and even train – more than 40 lions.
The lions had been at the MGM Grand until January 2012.
