For four nights only, the Opportunity Village’s Ralph & Betty Engelstad Campus is set to be transformed into a mini Jerusalem to bring good tidings of great joy this holiday season. The Las Vegas Redrock Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a collection of Summerlin congregations, plans to host “The Nativity” at 6 p.m. Dec. 11, 6 and 7 p.m. Dec. 12 and 6, 7 and 8 p.m. Dec. 13-14 at the campus, 6050 S. Buffalo Drive.
After years of serving people who are battling homelessness or food insecurity, the Friends in the Desert Foundation has gotten a glimpse of the population it serves. A study conducted by UNLV students looked at the organization, which offers a hot meal to those in need, and was able to identify its demographics.
They don’t have all the modern safety features — shoulder belts, high head rests or third brake lights. And great gas mileage? Forget about it. What they do have is the ability to take one back to a different time. A car show is planned as part of the 13th annual Lakes Festival of Lights, set for noon to dusk Dec. 14 at the intersection of Lake East and Lake Sahara drives.
