North Las Vegas officials put a union settlement agreement on paper Friday, ponying up $5.6 million for a long-awaited out-of-court deal with city bargaining groups, but the deal, which could require a tax increase for residents of the financially ailing city, is far short of official’s previous target of $7.7 million.

Alyssa Tygh, president of the National Juniors honor society at Becker Middle School, recently won a $1,000 grant from the Youth Neighborhood Association Partnership Program to put on a special education field day at her school. She also qualified as a finalist for Miss Teen Nevada and is set to represent the state at National American Miss. Along with maintaing a 4.0 GPA in excelled classes, she has played the Lil Rebels ASA travel softball team for eight years. Her ultimate goal is to get a student-athlete college scholarship.
