Truck hits girl in North Las Vegas

North Las Vegas police are investigating a crash that left a child in critical condition Friday night. Just after 9 p.m., an 8-year-old girl was crossing Commerce Street, near Lake Mead Boulevard, when she was struck by a gray truck, said North Las Vegas police spokesman Aaron Patty.

Buying a .22-caliber rifle to protect her children was the “stupidest thing” Shavon Carrillo said she ever did. Early Memorial Day morning, Las Vegas police said Carrillo, 31, grabbed the rifle and pointed it at her 11-year-old son, Israel, who was in a sleeping bag.
