Gov. Brian Sandoval on Monday announced a deal that will allow a flood control project to be built near the washed-out Rainbow subdivision on Mount Charleston. Construction on the project is expected to start in several weeks and be finished before winter.

Motorcyclist critically injured fleeing police officer

A motorcyclist was critically injured at the corner of Spring Valley Parkway and Ravenwood Drive after fleeing an officer. The rider lost control of the motorcycle and hit a stop sign while the motorcycle continued on and hit a wall.

A “thin-line thunderstorm” affecting east Henderson and west Boulder City prompted the National Weather Service to issue a flash flood warning on Wednesday afternoon.

Additionally, there are storms forming in the southwest valley and moving into the northeast. The weather service said to expect heavy rainfall, lightning and wind gusts.

Statewide campaign for background checks launched today in Las Vegas

Nevadans for Background Checks on Monday launched a statewide campaign to gather signatures for a proposed 2016 ballot initiative to expand required background checks to all gun sales in Nevada, with certain exceptions.

Backers included religious and law enforcement leaders as well as state Sen. Justin Jones, D-Las Vegas, who sponsored similar expanded gun background check legislation in the 2013 session.

On Monday morning initial arraignment was held for Natasha Galenn Jackson, the woman facing eight felony charges — including murder, attempted murder, burglary, kidnapping and robbery for two home invasions that turned deadly.
