Companies from the Silesian Voivodeship play a key role in the economic development of Poland and the region. That is why we support their promotion abroad and help you to establish contacts with partners from future-oriented markets. The Silesian Voivodeship Economic Mission to Nevada is an excellent example of this support.
Economic mission to Nevada
On June 1-8, Silesian representatives of the SME sector visited one of the ten most business-friendly US states – Nevada. The visit, chaired by Jakub Chełstowski, Marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship, was attended by representatives of the Marshal’s Office, the International Cooperation Department of the Upper Silesian Fund, Katowice Special Economic Zone, Silesian Aviation Clusterand and entrepreneurs from the Silesian Voivodeship.
Within the mission, some meetings, and events were organized, during which Silesian companies had the opportunity to make strategic business contacts for their industries with representatives of enterprises from the Nevada region. The mission was dedicated to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises from the Silesian Voivodeship, whose business profile was related to the following industries: medical, green technologies, IT / ICT, e-sport, which are part of the regional smart/intersectoral specializations of the region.
During the mission, there was a visit to the International Innovation Center in Las Vegas, which presented the business offer of Silesian companies. In addition, the Silesia-Nevada Business Forum was organized at the Blackfire Innovation Center, where exchanged contacts and information with Blackfire business organizations. The participation in the UNR InNEVation Center event and the visit to Parliament, where Michael Brown, Executive Director of the Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development, was among others, was an essential milestone of the mission. The issues of challenges and forms of support were discussed, under which entrepreneurs could count on help in the expansion of their products and services to Nevada. During the meeting at the Nevada Governor’s Economic Development Office, participants talked with high-level government officials about investment opportunities in both regions.
Cooperation between Silesia and the state of Nevada
Nevada is one of the ten most business-friendly states, with extremely friendly laws for business, the lack of a requirement to have a minimum share capital for commercial companies, specialized commercial courts, or high flexibility regarding the internal structure of commercial companies. All this makes it one of the most competitive business environments in the world. It is worth noting that the state of Nevada is primarily a region with deeply rooted mining traditions, an indispensable element that allows you to think about long-term cooperation.
The “Agreement on Cooperation and Development of Friendly Relations between the Silesian Voivodeship and the State of Nevada” was signed in 2016 and renewed in March 2022. Cooperation shall be carried out in particular on projects of strategic interest in the mining, energy, mechanical engineering, water management, aerospace, motor vehicles including autonomous vehicles and electromobility, medicine, information and communication technologies, eSport and GameDev sectors. We focus on cooperation between small and medium-sized enterprises and on scientific and technical cooperation, which is realized through joint research programs, scientific conferences, and exchange of experience.
The Silesian Voivodeship is the most attractive region in Poland for the state of Nevada to undertake economic cooperation. This area is mainly due to the financial strength and similarities related to the characteristics of enterprises operating in both regions. The Silesian Voivodeship is one of the most vital regions in Poland in terms of economy (12.4% of GDP) and demographics. It focuses primarily on the mining industry, intellectual strength, technological potential, and above all, on innovative solutions and know-how of Silesian enterprises. The Voivodeship also has extensive human resources, a strategic location, and a well-developed road, rail, and air transport infrastructure. Institutions supporting trade and investments, for which the development of the internationalization enterprises is significant, are also highly active. For this purpose, many programs are created to help enterprises enter new markets. We hope that the activities undertaken in cooperation and the successful economic mission will positively influence the development of our regions and contribute to our joint success.
