The last school year ended in a way none of us could have predicted—with schools valley-wide closed due to a government ordinance enacted to curb a global pandemic. Like other institutions, our Meadows teachers and students swiftly pivoted to remote learning, stitching the end of their year together with the aid of webcams, video conferencing software, and other online tools. While those technological advances proved groundbreaking in allowing us to continue an approximation of our class experiences, it reminded us that learning in a classroom alongside like-minded students with a dedicated and talented teacher is a key component of what makes a Meadows education special.
As a small, independent school, we are very fortunate to have additional flexibility for operating our campus. It is why our leadership team was able to craft a plan that allowed our students to return to their classrooms this fall, and how we have been able to remain open for in-person learning—from our youngest PreK students through high school—while the pandemic has continued.
From thermal imaging cameras, to weekly COVID surveillance testing of faculty and staff, to upgraded webcams and WIFI, to additional support staff, to new sanitation equipment, air filtration, and handwashing stations, there have been numerous upgrades on campus, in addition to masking and physical distancing, to mitigate the risks of the pandemic. All of these efforts were guided by the need to put our students’ and staff’s health and safety first, a belief that in-person education is vital to children’s success and social-emotional well-being, and a desire to provide as normal a school experience as possible.
Each day, we are thankful for the ability to do what we do best for our Meadows community, and we are excited to discover how The Meadows School will continue to evolve to be an engaging environment where our students can pursue excellence.
