BoltBus beginning LV-L.A. service with promotional fares

BoltBus expands its network on Thursday to include service between Las Vegas and Los Angeles.

An affiliate of Greyhound, BoltBus will operate one daily roundtrip during the week and three a day on weekends. As the opening promotion, all BoltBus seats through Sunday will sell for $1 each. At least into January, the highest fare shown on boltbus.com is $8 one-way.

The buses run between Greyhound’s downtown Las Vegas and Union Station in downtown Los Angeles, the same terminus as arch rival MegaBus. The running times are scheduled for five hours or less as non-stop runs, rather than several intermediate stops built into conventional Greyhound service.

BoltBus resembles the Greyhound Express service, which debuted on the route last year, driving buses that included power outlets, Wi-Fi, more leg room and reserved seats.

Originated in the Northeast, where inter-city bus service is much more competitive, BoltBus was brought to several routes out of Seattle about two years ago. Los Angeles was brought into the route map on Oct. 31, with destinations now including San Francisco, San Diego and San Jose.
