Boyd Gaming shows loss in first quarter

Body Gaming swung to a loss in the first quarter, hurt by declining results at its Borgata property in New Jersey and mixed results elsewhere.

Net revenues of $564.9 million marked a 36 percent increase from one year ago due to Borgata being only partially included in 2010 numbers. When comparing both years on a like basis, revenues fell 1.5 percent.

This year's net loss of $3.5 million, or 4 cents a share, was a drop from the $8.4 million, or 10 cents a share, from the last year.

Among its geographic sectors, the revenues and the operating earnings at Las Vegas locals casinos declined but showed gains on Fremont Street.

The stock was up 28 cents a share, or 3.1 percent, at $9.20 in early trading as analysts generally expected modest results.
