Sale of Carson City hotel-casino to Las Vegas businessman approved

The Nevada Gaming Commission on Thursday unanimously approved the sale of Carson Station hotel-casino in downtown Carson City to Las Vegas businessman Rory Bedore and his management firm, 777 Gaming.

The purchase of Carson Station marks 777 Gaming's first ownership of a hotel-casino. The Las Vegas-based company has managed casino properties in Elko, Winnemucca, Hawthorne and Spring Creek.

The casino, which is about three blocks from the Nevada Legislature, is being purchased for an undisclosed price from Clark Russell, the son of the late Gov. Charles H. Russell, who was in office from 1951-1959. Russell's daughter, Jennifer, will remain at Carson Station overseeing marketing and human resources.

The sale is scheduled to close July 1, Bedore said in a statement. Plans call for a remodeled casino, restaurant and bar area and 91 hotel rooms.
