The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas has lost two senior executives who helped oversee the property’s development and grand opening.
Separately, negotiations with the Culinary are scheduled to begin next month if workers approve a union, the company confirmed Monday.
Chief information officer Marshall Andrew and vice president of hotel operations Greg Sheets are no longer with The Cosmopolitan. The company did not give a reason for their departure.
“In the course of opening a new resort there is turnover, new people join and some depart. With few exceptions, it is our policy not to discuss specific personnel changes,” the company said in a statement.
The $3.9 billion hotel-casino, which opened in December between Bellagio and CityCenter on the Strip, is about to begin contract talks with the Culinary union.
“As planned, we will be entering discussions with the Culinary union in March. We are expecting a fruitful outcome,” the company said in a statement.
Ken Liu, research director with Culinary Local 226, said Monday that the union has a card check agreement in place with the hotel and plans to execute that agreement soon, leading to Cosmopolitan employees voting on union representation.
He said the union expects the vote to take place next month, with negotiations beginning shortly after the cards are counted if the vote is successful.
The Cosmopolitan has approximately 5,000 workers. Liu said about 2,000 employees, including housekeepers and food service workers, would be eligible to participate in the vote.
“We are looking forward to working with The Cosmopolitan. We expect to have a fruitful and productive relationship,” he said.
The Culinary union represents approximately 60,000 private sector employees in Nevada.
