Convention authority to keep airline service consultant

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority will retain Seabury AGP LLC as its airline service consultant, at a 50 percent higher price.

The term will take Seabury through June 30, 2014, the end of the authority's next fiscal year. After spending $300,000 on Seabury last year, the fee will rise to $450,000.

Although Seabury meets with some executives at domestic airlines, the primary focus is on persuading foreign carriers to add McCarran International Airport to their route maps.

In that regard, the recent record has been mixed. Korean Air, British Airways and Arkefly in the Netherlands all decided to boost or initiate flights in the past year. Philippine Airlines, airberlin , Mexico's VivaAerobus and XL Airways of France either cut back or left the market.

The authority said the higher fee covers more visits to airline head offices and added analysis. Seabury Vice President Damon Hylton said the firm had performed many of these services previously but was not paid for them.
