Fate of unfinished Harmon Hotel delayed until Jan. 17

The question of what to do with the unfinished Harmon Hotel has now been put off until Jan. 17.

The plans to start the floor-by-floor demolition of the 26-story property in early December was put on hold when FM Global, the insurance company that wrote the construction coverage, raised out-of-court objections. It warned back in September that it had insufficient time to inspect the Harmon’s alleged defects, leading Clark County District Judge Elizabeth Gonzalez in November to retract her earlier permission to allow the razing.

CityCenter, managed and half-owned by MGM Resorts International, submitted a $393 million claim in August for the building as a total loss. While FM Global people have performed their own inspections, they have said it was in regard to a much smaller claim the CityCenter filed prior to then.

Although invited to submit something that outlines its position directly Gonzalez, FM Global has not yet done so.

MGM has taken out a demolition permit from the Clark County Building Department but said it would not go forward without court approval.
