High-end furniture store may close Las Vegas showroom

Kreiss may soon close its Las Vegas showroom.

"We're considering it right now," managing director Loren Kreiss said. "The Las Vegas market has been hit pretty badly. We're not doing as well as we hoped."

The San Diego-based high-end furniture designer is contemplating closing three stores, but Kreiss said he's not ready to release the locations of the other two. The brand has showrooms in Boca Raton, Fla.; Coral Gables, Fla.; Denver; La Jolla, Calif.; Laguna, Calif.; Los Angeles; Naples, Fla.; Newport Beach, Calif.; Palm Desert, Calif.; San Francisco; San Jose, Calif.; Scottsdale, Ariz.; Seattle and West Palm Beach, Fla.

While Kreiss has had a Las Vegas presence for 20 years, its showroom at Town Square has been open for little more than a year. Three people work there.

Kreiss recently retained SPCI, a retail consulting firm, and expects to make a final decision about the Las Vegas closure within the next 60 to 90 days.

"We're restrategizing," Kreiss said. "We're doubling down on our top-performing locations."

Kreiss unveiled a redesigned website and recently opened new showrooms in San Jose, Calif., and Newport Beach, Calif. Kreiss said it may also open showrooms in Miami.

But, the company won't skirt Las Vegas forever.

"We will re-enter the market in the future," he said.
