Lux Delux now delivering meals by bicycle

Watch the bike lanes.

Lux Delux, a free iPhone app that allows users to place orders with downtown restaurants, is now delivering breakfast and lunch by bike from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The service, which began Monday, delivers meals from downtown restaurants to 15 fixed locations, including the Bank of America building on Fourth Street, World Market Center, The Molasky Building, The Smith Center, Zappos headquarters and all high-rise condos.

Participating restaurants include Rachel’s Kitchen, Le Thai, Eat, Triple George, Capriotti’s, Viva Las Arepas, Casa Don Juan, Hash House A Go Go, Mundo and others.

Deliveries cost 99 cents for now and are dropped off within an hour.

“Now all of the sudden your lunch is not restricted to what’s two blocks away from you,” said founder and CEO Andy Hsieh. “It’s more, “What are you in the mood for?’ “

LuxDelux is building its bike courier team and plans to expand to dinner deliveries. Hsieh said he will consider adding delivery to specific addresses as well.

“We’re just excited to allow people to experience and discover downtown in a whole new way, by either going there in person or having downtown come to you,” Hsieh said.
