Survey says Las Vegas still No. 1 domestic travel destination

Las Vegas retained its position as the No. 1 domestic travel destination in a new survey of travel agency owners, managers and agents.

Maui, Hawaii, ranked as the second most popular domestic destination for fall, while Orlando, Fla., No. 2 in the last survey, dropped to the third position.

This survey was conducted by Travel Leaders Group from July 30-Aug. 23, and includes responses from 871 U.S.-based travel agency owners, managers and agents from the Travel Leaders brand, and those affiliated with Travel Leaders Group's Luxury Travel Network, Nexion, Results! Travel, Tzell Travel Group and Vacation.com units.

Internationally, Caribbean cruises and Cancun, Mexico, continue to be the most popular destinations, while Mediterranean cruises moved up from its No. 5 spot in 2011 to the third most booked travel choice this fall.

For the survey, Travel Leaders Group travel agents throughout the United States were asked to name the five top domestic and international destinations they're booking for the remainder of the year. New York City and Honolulu, respectively, rounded out the top five.

In the survey, 81 percent of travel workers indicated year-to-date bookings are the same or better than at this time in 2011.
