Survey: We check our phones at odd times, places
You check your phone where?
Nearly 90 percent of people admit to using their phone in the bathroom, according to a survey conducted by Verizon Wireless.
Another 40 percent of respondents also admitted to using their phone at the dinner table, during a conversation or while at a movie.
Survey results reveal how, when and where people acknowledge using their mobile devices, including:
— Some 77 percent turn to their phone first thing in the morning (52 percent before they get out of bed and 25 percent with their morning coffee).
— Some 80 percent are offended when others use their device during an interaction while 82 percent of device users think they are offending others — but they do it anyway. Some 25 percent admit to using their phone during a meeting, at a house of worship, at a school meeting/during class, or while on a date.
— Another 49 percent say they are sending texts, 37 percent are using social media and 34 percent are checking email. Some 70 percent of Verizon customers are very generous with their phones and reported letting someone borrow their mobile device when that person hasn’t had service from another carrier.
But when it comes to family time, 34 percent of Verizon customers say they are happy to leave their phone at home.
The survey results are based on more than 6,000 responses from Verizon Wireless social connections from April 1 through April 15.
