A boy who may have shot himself while wielding a handgun Thursday remained in critical condition Friday.
North Las Vegas police are still deciding whether to charge the mother, who wasn’t at home when the 10-year-old shot himself in the head. The boy’s 3-year-old brother was at home at the time.
When the mother, Carmen Gustin, came home she found the boy injured and called police to the house at 3500 block of Creosote Way, near Gowan Road and Allen Lane, about 4:30 p.m.
Police did not provide details of how the boy found the gun.
Police spokeswoman Chrissie Coon said Friday that a decision on whether to charge Gustin likely won’t be made until next week. Police arrested her Thursday on unrelated misdemeanor warrants.
Child Protective Services has taken custody of the 3-year-old and a teenage son who wasn’t home at the time of the shooting.
