Arizona man indicted in child’s death

A Kingman, Ariz., man jailed in the death of his girlfriend's 13-month-old daughter has been charged with murder.

Dustin Colpitts, 21, is charged with first-degree murder and child abuse in an indictment Thursday by a Mohave County grand jury.

The victim, Adriana Sweeney, died Jan. 18 at Sunrise Medical Center after being transported from Kingman Regional Medical Center in northwest Arizona. Kingman police Sgt. Rusty Cooper said Colpitts admitted slapping and shaking Sweeney when caring for the infant while his mother was at work.

Detective Brian Zach said Colpitts was incarcerated six years for sex offense convictions in Oregon before his release in September.
