Car crashes and debris flows hit Las Vegas Valley during thunderstorm

It was a dark and stormy night in Las Vegas, which was preceded by a dark and stormy afternoon.

Thunderstorms bearing torrents of rain descended on the valley about 4 p.m., washing fallen tree branches and dirt onto valley roads.

Numerous vehicle crashes were reported throughout the valley.

One person was injured when a car overturned southbound on Interstate 15 near Sloan, authorities said.

The National Weather Service reported “monsoon showers and thunderstorms” could continue through Tuesday in the region.

The U.S. Forest Service said the storms triggered “debris flows” in Kyle Canyon at the 28,000-acre site of the now fully contained Carpenter 1 Fire.

However, four new fires were ignited by lightning in the Spring Mountains Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters were battling those blazes, believed to be less than one-tenth of an acre in size.
