Federal lawyers seek further delay of Davidovici sentence

Department of Justice Tax Division trial attorneys today filed a motion requesting a further delay in the sentencing of Strip nightclub operator Steve Davidovici in an effort to give prosecutors and investigators enough time to scrutinize whether U.S. District Judge Kent Dawson had a conflict in the case.

Dawson’s son, Brian Dawson, has worked as a bartender at local nightclubs for which Davidovici has been listed as a managing partner. The judge said he was unaware of his son’s occupation.

In a hastily called hearing last Thursday, Judge Dawson temporarily delayed Davidovici’s sentence and set a new sentencing date for July 9. Dawson agreed to sentence Davidovici to eight months of house arrest following a felony tax conviction.
