Man, 70, falls into Tropicana ventilation shaft

A 70-year-old man fell 20 feet into a ventilation shaft at the Tropicana resort Tuesday afternoon, the Clark County Fire Department said.

He suffered moderate injuries at the resort on Las Vegas Boulevard South near Tropicana Avenue.

The incident occurred at 4:45 p.m.

The man fell through a grate that covered the shaft near the front of the property.

A rescue team with the Las Vegas Fire Department used a ladder to reach the man and evaluate his injuries.

He was lifted out of the shaft with a basket.

The process took about an hour, Clark County fire officials said.

The opening the man fell through was secured. Officials with the county’s building department were assessing the status of security in the area.
