A 29-year-old man was convicted of domestic violence charges last week for strangling his ex-girlfriend and assaulting her 6-year-old son.
Brian Rodriguez, who has a criminal history of drug trafficking, was convicted of seven counts, including child abuse, home invasion, assault with a deadly weapon, burglary and possession of a firearm by an ex-felon.
He was acquitted of two counts of cruelty to animals. Prosecutors said he killed two family dogs.
Authorities said Rodriguez terrorized the woman and her son at their Las Vegas home from May through July 2013. He stole money and electronics and pointed a gun at them and threatened to kill them, prosecutors said.
A sentencing hearing was set for June 12 before District Judge James Bixler.
This is not Rodriguez’ first run-in with the law. In 2009, he pleaded guilty to a drug trafficking charge and was sentenced to probation at first. In 2010, he violated the conditions of his probation and was sentenced prison.
