Mesquite police find drugs, arrest 2 men in traffic stop

Two men from Minnesota were arrested in Mesquite on Sunday after six pounds of methamphetamine was found in the car they were in, Mesquite police said Monday.

David Pinney, 35 of Maples, Minn., and Gregory Morgan, 26, of Cass Lake, Minn., were booked into the Mesquite Detention Center. They were later transported to the Clark County Detention Center, police said.

Neither Pinney nor Morgan was listed as an inmate on the Clark County jail’s website Monday afternoon.

Police said a black Volkswagen was stopped traveling north on Interstate 15 on a routine traffic violation. Mesquite is about 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas.

A police dog sniffed the air around the Volkswagen and reacted to the vehicle’s trunk, police said. Officers discovered five containers that were vacuum-sealed and wrapped in tape.

A preliminary drug test was conducted for the container’s contents, which tested positive as methamphetamine. Police said the methamphetamine had an estimated value of $270,000.
