Motorcyclist dies after being struck by SUV in southeast valley crash
One man died Monday evening after a collision between a motorcycle and another vehicle in the southeast valley.
Las Vegas police said a 1994 Ford Explorer, northbound on Pecos Road about 6 p.m., made a left turn onto Hacienda Avenue in front of a motorcycle, southbound on Pecos. The SUV driver attempted the left turn on a flashing yellow arrow and failed to yield to the motorcyclist, who had a green light, according to police. The motorcyclist lost control of his 1999 Honda CBR, was separated from the bike and slid under the Ford.
The motorcyclist was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The Clark County coroner’s office identified him as 40-year-old Ian Arche of Las Vegas.
The SUV driver, 41-year-old Francisco Contreras-DeJesus, failed a field sobriety test and was booked at Clark County Detention Center on one charge of felony, death-related DUI.
This collision was the 28th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction in 2014.
