Police: CCDC corrections officer hit by bat

A Clark County Detention Center corrections officer was injured Wednesday morning after being struck with a bat.

Las Vegas police spokeswoman Laura Meltzer said the officer was injured about 10:30 a.m. after a man walked into the jail lobby with an aluminum bat and struck an officer in the head.

The officer was hospitalized and was complaining of severe pain, police said. The assailant, a former inmate at the jail, was taken into custody. He was taken to University Medical Center for medical issues but was expected to be transferred to the detention center for booking, Meltzer said.

The officer was transported to UMC and was released a few hours after the incident.

There are metal detectors in the jail’s lobby, where several officers stand guard.
