Police: Pedestrian dies after being struck by wrong-way driver

A driver traveling the wrong way in a pickup entered a residential driveway Sunday afternoon and struck three people, killing one, Las Vegas police said.

The fatal crash occurred about 2:43 p.m. on Hacienda Avenue, near Alfalfa Street, which is near Pecos Road. The identity of the deceased was not released. Police said he was a 46-year-old Las Vegas man.

The Chevrolet C1500 pickup was driven by 76-year-old Rogelio Nunez. Nunez was westbound in an eastbound lane on Hacienda shortly before the pickup entered a driveway at 3495 E. Hacienda Ave.

A man and a woman who were also in the driveway were hospitalized. They were identified as 68-year-old Peggy Patten, from Las Vegas, and 58-year-old Morris Dobard, also of Las Vegas.

A passenger in Nunez's pickup was identified as 64-year-old Elisa Nunez, from Las Vegas.

Both the driver and passenger in the pickup also were hospitalized. Injuries for the four people who were hospitalized ranged from minor to moderate.

Sunday's crash marked the 59th traffic fatality of the year under the jurisdiction of Las Vegas police.
