Reno felon sentenced to 15 years for possessing loaded gun

A 48-year-old Reno man was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison Monday for carrying a loaded gun in a Northern Nevada casino, according to the U.S. attorney for the district of Nevada.

James Clifton Jackson was convicted in February of being a felon in possession of a firearm. On Oct. 30, 2011, Jackson went into the Grand Sierra in Reno carrying a leather bag. He walked away and left the leather bag next to a slot machine.

A casino employee recovered the bag and found a loaded gun along with Jackson's library card inside.

Jackson also had eight prior criminal convictions, which led to a more severe penalty, Nevada's U.S. attorney's office said.
