Robber killed in shootout at northwest SuperPawn

An armed robber was killed during a shootout with an employee of a pawnshop in the northwest valley Wednesday morning, Las Vegas police said.

A man, who was armed with a handgun, entered the Cash America SuperPawn Store at 7095 N. Durango Road, near the Las Vegas Beltway, about 9:30 a.m. “with the apparent intent to commit a robbery,” police said. Inside the store, he was met by a pawnshop employee, who also was armed, and they exchanged gunfire.

The dead man’s identity will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

No one else was injured in the shootout.

In the hours after the shooting Wednesday, pawnshop employees gathered outside, talking with police.

All employees declined immediate comment.

Carol Caverley, 58 , said she was walking to the shop Wednesday to pawn some jewelry when she saw police cars, but didn’t witness the shooting.

“I was just a little broke after Christmas,” she said. “I can’t believe it.”

A SuperPawn corporate spokesman wrote in an email:

“At SuperPawn, our first concern is for the safety of our customers and co-workers. Currently, we are fully cooperating with authorities to sort through the details of this unfortunate incident.”
