Suspect accused of impersonating police officer
A 27-year-old man was booked on Halloween for impersonating a police officer -- for the second time -- according to a Las Vegas police report obtained Tuesday.
A stolen car investigation that began Sunday led police to arrest Daniel Howard Weiss.
Weiss was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on Monday on multiple charges, including impersonating an officer, possession of methamphetamine and a probation violation.
According to Weiss' arrest report, police saw him in a Ford Explorer on Sunday morning at an apartment complex on Paradise Road near Sands Avenue, where he was unloading items. When officers checked the vehicle's records, they learned it was stolen and arrested Weiss.
One officer looked at the items Weiss was unloading and found 0.3 grams of methamphetamine.
When the owner of the stolen vehicle spoke with investigators, they learned that Weiss previously had shown her a Metropolitan Police Department badge. Weiss referred the woman to his Facebook page, in which he claimed to work for Las Vegas police's Internal Affairs Section.
The woman told police she let Weiss borrow her car but reported it stolen when it was never returned.
The Facebook page also said Weiss worked as a senior analyst for the U.S. government and is a supporter of the Hells Angels.
When Weiss was interviewed, he told investigators that his former roommate is a corrections officer with Las Vegas police, according to the arrest report.
The officer in question reported his badge lost in October. Weiss said he had to leave the officer's home because the corrections officer did not want to get into trouble for "associating with a person of ill repute."
The report said Weiss was on probation with the Nevada Department of Parole and Probation for felony grand larceny.
Weiss also had a previous arrest for impersonating a police officer, the report said.
