One of two teenagers who were struck by a vehicle on a sidewalk on New Year's Day died from his injuries, North Las Vegas police said Wednesday.

The identity of the 18-year-old North Las Vegas man was not released.

Police said the deceased man and a 16-year-old girl were struck about 4 p.m. Tuesday along Gliding Eagle Road, near Black Oaks Street.

The girl remained in critical condition at University Medical Center on Wednesday.

Police said 19-year-old Cristian Ivan Diaz lost control of a 2002 Acura Coupe and struck the two pedestrians. He was booked into the North Las Vegas jail on one count each of failure to maintain a travel lane and failure to obtain a Nevada's driver's license within 30 days.
