Underwear-clad man armed with knife shot by Las Vegas police

• UPDATE: Man shot by Las Vegas police Tuesday dies

Las Vegas police shot an underwear-clad, knife-wielding man who barricaded himself inside a south valley home Tuesday night.

According to police, a resident in the 9000 block of Crystal Rock Circle, near Las Vegas Boulevard and Pebble Road, came home about 5 p.m. to find the man sitting on his couch with a large knife.

SWAT units tried to negotiate with the home intruder but were unable to draw him out. Police also attempted to use non-lethal tactics on the man, including canines, Tasers and rubber bullets, which were not successful.

Officers ultimately breached the back of the house to try to arrest the 35-year-old man who had a hammer and a knife, police said. The man fled, running at officers entering the front of the house. Two officers fired their weapons, police said. The man was hit several times.

The suspect faces charges of burglary and resisting officers with a weapon, police said. He will be booked in absentia at the Clark County Detention Center.

After he was shot, the suspect struck a paramedic and was shocked with a Taser. He then struck a second paramedic.

He was taken to University Medical Center. Police said his condition was stable.

The officers have been placed on routine paid administrative leave pending a review of the incident.
