Victim in Thursday morning shooting has died

A man shot near Alta Drive and Jones Boulevard on Thursday has died, Las Vegas police said.

Police said the shooting happened at 10:43 a.m. at 516 Slayton Drive.

The identity of the deceased man was not released by authorities. But Anthony Wernicke, who says he will run for mayor of Las Vegas, said Thursday afternoon that the victim was his brother, Edward Wernicke, 40.

Officer Bill Cassell, a police spokesman, said motive and suspect information was unknown.

Anthony Wernicke said he suspects the motive for the shooting was an on-going dispute between his brother and a former friend.
