Arrest made in connection with deadly shooting near northwest Las Vegas business

Updated February 18, 2025 - 10:19 am

A man was found dead near a local business complex on Monday morning, according to police.

Metropolitan Police Department’s Lt. Steve Riback told reporters that around 2:40 a.m., the fire department requested assistance from the Metropolitan Police Department regarding a medical call from the 6800 block of North Durango Drive. When officers arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound, Riback said.

Medical personnel pronounced the man dead at the scene, according to police.

At the news conference about the shooting, yellow police tape surrounded a Walgreens parking lot. The pharmacy was “closed temporarily due to an emergency,” according to a representative reached by phone.

When a reporter asked if this homicide was the fourth in Metro’s jurisdiction since Saturday, Riback said he was “not exactly sure of the total numbers at this point.”

According to a later press release, detectives during their investigation identified a suspect as 19-year-old Joshua Martinez. Based on the department’s findings, the Metropolitan Police Department SWAT team “served a search warrant at a residence” and apprehended Martinez without harm.

Police said Martinez was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on suspicion of open murder.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Clark County coroner’s office at a later date.

Riback encouraged anybody with information about the shooting to contact police.
