Man arrested after fatal shooting Friday in Henderson apartment complex

Updated March 24, 2017 - 9:59 pm

A 38-year-old man was arrested in the fatal shooting of a 32-year-old man early Friday in Henderson.

The 32-year-old man’s body was found about 2 a.m. at Lakewood Cove Apartments, 1100 N. Center St., near East Warm Springs Road, Henderson Police Department spokeswoman Michelle French said.

Police said there was an argument between the man found dead — later identified as Angel Thompson, of Henderson — and another man. During the argument, Thompson was shot in the buttocks, then collapsed at the scene.

When police were called, Thompson was unconscious and not breathing, French said. People were performing CPR on him, but first responders soon declared him dead.

Later in the day, police arrested Gerald Polk. He is being held at the Henderson Detention Center on charges of murder, possessing narcotics for sale and possessing a firearm by prohibited person.

French said Polk was a four-time convicted felon. It is unclear if the men knew each other; Polk’s arrest report was not available Friday.
