Police: Man kills woman, himself in southwest Las Vegas Valley
A man stabbed a woman to death before killing himself with a self-inflicted gunshot wound Friday night at a residence in the southwest Las Vegas Valley, police said.
A welfare check was requested just after 8:15 p.m., according to a Metropolitan Police Department news release. Officers arrived to the residence on the 7200 block of Powers Street, near South Fort Apache Road and West Warm Springs Road, and heard what sounded like a gunshot coming from inside.
Both the man and woman — later identified as Orlando Amparo, 55, and Crisanta Amparo, 46 — were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Clark County coroner’s office ruled Crisanta’s death as a homicide, with the cause of multiple sharp force injuries. Orlando’s death was ruled a suicide after a gunshot wound to the head.
