Aaron Lewis in for National Finals Rodeo ride

Aaron Lewis is sure to have his country side on display during National Finals Rodeo week, but he can play to just about any crowd.

“I know hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of songs,” the Staind frontman explained a few years ago. “I used to be the guy sitting over in the corner of your favorite bar on a Wednesday night. I was playing music pretty much five nights a week (and) had to deal with people making requests all night long and had to have ammunition to throw back at them.”

But as a rodeo-week troubadour on Wednesday and Thursday, Lewis will likely serve up big portions of his country EP “Town Line” and its full-length followup, “The Road.” Although he has followed the path of country cross-overs such as Jewel and Darius Rucker, no one is confusing him with mainstream Nashville fare yet.

“I hope I’m not getting in trouble with Nashville for saying this, but the slickification of Nashville is because it’s the same group of songwriters that are pretty much writing everybody’s songs,” he told the Review-Journal a while back, “instead of having a piece of themselves in that song.”
